How We Save Lives

In 2013, Maricopa County was one of the worst places to be a pet. Shelters were facing the second worst pet overpopulation crisis in the United States. The Arizona Humane Society was a large rescue shelter taking in thousands of homeless animals, but there were still many pets with treatable illnesses being euthanized throughout the state.

Today, we take in the pets that other shelters can’t care for: the ones who are sick, who are injured, or who would normally be euthanized in other shelters because of their tough medical needs. We serve as a safety net for the Valley’s most vulnerable pets, and our Ethical No-Kill Philosophy™ ensures we never euthanize a pet for space or based on the length of time they’ve been with us.

And every effort has been worth it. Since 2013, we’ve reduced euthanasia by 83%—that’s 150,000 additional lives saved. Here’s how we’re transforming animal welfare in Arizona.

You Can Make A Difference!

Volunteers are critical to the success of Lost Our Home. We wouldn’t be able to care for the thousands of pets who have relied on us over the years if it wasn’t for the time, talent, and incredible support of so many caring people. We continually desire to expand our volunteer community. No matter what skills or expertise you have, there are many ways to volunteer at Lost Our Home.

We have youth, adult and group volunteer opportunities.

Who Can Volunteer at Our Facility?

Cactus Cats Rescue is a non-profit 501(c)3, no-kill rescue organization that began in 1998. We are a group of volunteers, some of whom have been in the rescue business for 20+ years. We are dedicated to finding forever homes for every kitten and cat that comes into our care. All of our kittens and cats reside in foster homes with knowledgeable and caring foster parents and their families. We work closely with other rescue groups and animal shelters and all of your donations are tax deductible!

Our mission is to provide care, comfort and compassion for all the cats and kittens who come into our care by finding them forever homes. In addition we also want to help build a humane community that promotes cat advocacy by educating the public about the need for spaying/neutering pets.

Arizona Small Dog Rescue is a non profit registered 501(c)3 no kill rescue shelter. We are a group of volunteers who have dedicated our lives to rescuing and saving homeless, unwanted, abandoned, neglected, and abused small dogs. We save most of our animals from kill shelters around the valley, but also accept owner surrenders and stray surrenders.

Owner surrender fee’s vary depending on space and availability. We spay/neuter, vaccinate, medically examine, microchip, and evaluate and/or socialize all dogs that come into our rescue before placing up for adoption to pre-screened homes.

We rescue many dogs every week and always have a wide variety of personalities and breeds available who would be a perfect fit for any family and any home.

Our organization is committed to keeping pets safe, happy and healthy while they wait to be placed in a forever home with their owners. Andre House currently serves between 500-1000 unhoused guests a day by providing services such as showers, clothing, and hygiene as well as dinner. At Andre House, we are committed to building personal relationships with our guests, and we also love all of the pets that come along with them. While we have the resources to provide needs to our guests, we don't always have the resources to help their pets.

We fight the big fights to end suffering for all animals.

Together with millions of supporters, the Humane Society of the United States takes on puppy mills, factory farms, the fur trade, trophy hunting, animal cosmetics testing and other cruel industries. Through our rescue, response and sanctuary work, as well as other hands-on animal care services, we help thousands of animals every year. We fight all forms of animal cruelty to achieve the vision behind our name: a humane society.

Whether by sharing your time, money or even your birthday, there are so many ways to donate to help animals through Humane Society of the United States.
